What is an EAN-8?
The compressed EAN, issued for products too small to carry a full thirteen-digit symbol - chewing gum, cosmetics, the things where the barcode would wrap around the packet. Numbers are allocated sparingly by the same authorities that issue EAN-13s, precisely because there are far fewer of them.
What it holds
Seven digits, or eight with the check digit. It is not a shorter version of an EAN-13 you already have: an EAN-8 is a separate number, issued separately, and truncating a thirteen-digit code to eight will produce a barcode for something else entirely.
Making a lot of them
Drop a .txt or .csv on this page and every line becomes its own EAN-8, all of them zipped together. A CSV is read from its first column. Nothing is uploaded - the codes are drawn in this page, on your machine - so a list of five thousand costs nothing and takes as long as your laptop takes.
